Thomas Ashe, the Kerry schoolteacher who died on hunger strike in 1917

Ashe was just 32 when he died on September 25, 1917, after a so-called botched force-feeding in Mountjoy Prison, where he and fellow republican inmates had gone on hunger strike demanding to be recognized as political prisoners.
