A recent incident in Johannesburg where a mother went out for a run and did not return home has highlighted the safety concerns faced by women athletes in South Africa.

A survey by Adidas found that 92% of women respondents expressed concern for their safety while running, a fear that is universally applicable and echoed by community activist Marisa Calvert.
